Altered Perspectives is an on-going art project we began over seven years ago, combining two different mediums

to create something new, in this case paintings with ceramics.

For instance a painting of boats is combined with plates containing marine dècors, and the process as it were 'alters their perspective', hence the title of the series.

By breaking the painted image into several parts, the subject is removed from its framed confines,

extended, and given a new life as a new art piece.

The Altered Perspectives are now being realized under the name DeSimoneWayland.

We have evolved our research into the interplay between transferware plates and paintings from the

one-of-a-kind Altered Perspectives into our series of limited edition ceramics called Altered Histories.

Altered Histories take the idea of combining textiles and ceramics further, casting the canvas directly

into the ceramic and producing a tactile surface of applied oil paintings on the plates.

We derive inspiration for the blue and white transfers from our personal collection

of antique Dutch plates and from a desire to revive the beautiful, historic designs

of the Dutch ceramics industry, which has sadly died out in the last quarter of the 20th C.
